I don't think that having to live up to the "manly role" is such a bad thing like Paul Theroux claims it to be. The things we go through isn't a bad thing it makes us stronger and makes us want to push for better. Take sports for an example it teaches u team work leadership for others keeps your body in shape. If and when you lose its should teach you two things one how to hold your head up high that you gave it your best and two it should push you to do better so you can win next time. I say that a guy shouldn't feel that living the "manly role" is a burden but rather a right to of life.

In both books they are take two ideas about how a man is made. Either he is born or made by society. And i have to agree with Judith Lorber that man are made from society rather then born because in how to build a man they say that if a boy is born .06 of an inch he is not consider a man so they turn him into a girl. That is why I say society makes a man because from the moment we are born a boy or girl is told how to act what to wear and what to think and from there they place in feminine or masculine group. Here in America we only have two genders so in order to fit in a guy or girl must confined into one or the other gender or they will fell like an out cast. Society get to tell people how one group is different from the other and that man can't do what woman do and woman can't do what man do.This makes it hard for women when they wanna do something like become a fire fighter or an NFL player, and the same goes for men when they wanna be a nurse or a babysitter.

I think that man are born not made. If a baby is born with a penis then its a boy. So what if its smaller then normal he can do things to make it bigger later on in life.I don't think that doctors have the right to tell you that your have to change the sex of the baby boy because his size doesn't match up with a normal baby boy. A boy should be happy with his size and not care about what other guys say or think because if another guy is checking out my size there is something wrong there. And it has been proven that a guy only needs 3 inches to pleasure a woman. A guy should choose what sex he wants to be a girl or boy but that should be his choose not the doctors.
